Call for three-year ban on mountain hare culling

A group of 10 high profile wildlife & conservation organisations, including the Scottish Raptor Study Group, has called upon SNH to introduce a three-year ban on mountain hare culling on grouse moors until safeguards are in place to ensure the mountain hare population is not being significantly affected by the widespread and intensive culls. New three-year Sea Eagle Management Scheme launched

A new management scheme has been introduced to provide support for livestock farmers and crofters who experience an impact on their livestock from reintroduced white-tailed eagles. The scheme will operate from 2015-2018 and will trial prevention measures where these are required and are practical. Press release from SNH here.
White-tailed Eagles nesting in Orkney after 142 year absence

A young pair of sea eagles have built a nest on Hoy for the first time since 1873. The pair are thought to be around four years old. If their breeding attempt is successful, this will be a significant milestone in the continuing re-establishment of this species in Scotland. Details of the breeding attempt here.
